In a secluded mountain cottage, a chance encounter between a dancer, Diotima, and an engineer, Karl, sparks a passionate affair. Meanwhile, Karl's young friend Vigo becomes smitten with Diotima, and she inadvertently gives him her scarf. However, Vigo misinterprets her kindness and assumes she's in love with him. When Karl witnesses Diotima innocently comforting Vigo, he mistakenly believes she's being unfaithful to him with his friend.
