Soviet cipher clerk Igor Gouzenko is sent to Ottawa, Canada, in 1943, where he and his wife Anna are tasked with maintaining a secret life as diplomats while working for the Soviet military attaché. Despite being on the same side in the war, the Gouzenkos are instructed to keep their true identities hidden and not form friendships with their Canadian neighbors.
