In 1940s Venice, as fascist influence grows, retired art critic Professor Nino Rolfe and his younger wife Teresa struggle to rekindle their passion. Nino's plan to reignite their relationship involves writing down his sexual fantasies in a secret diary, hoping Teresa will find it and read it, leading her to overcome her inhibitions.
