An aging street performer, Wang Bianlian, also known as the King of Mask, has spent decades mastering the rare Sichuan Change Art. After his wife left him with a young son over 30 years ago, Wang's life was marked by loneliness and loss, as his son passed away at the age of 10. Despite the opportunity to join a famous opera troupe, Wang prefers to continue his simple life as a street performer. One night, he buys a young boy from a slave trader, intending to teach him his art and find a new sense of purpose. However, his plans are disrupted when the boy is revealed to be a girl.
