The story follows six convicts, including a young boy named Toby and his sister Polly, as they face hard labor and harsh treatment under the supervision of Sergeant Langden and Corporal Wesley. Along the way, Toby befriends a baby koala named Yo-Yo and a mysterious Aboriginee boy named Whooranga, who has a special connection with animals. Together, they embark on a daring rescue mission to free Big George, a blacksmith and Polly's love interest, from prison, but ultimately face a heart-wrenching sacrifice.
