On every Valentine's Day, Caroline returns to the train station where she last saw her husband, a US Navy pilot, before he went missing in action in 1944. Her grandson Lucas, a former baseball star turned physiotherapist, is about to publish a book and shares his grandmother's story with the station manager, who assigns it to journalist Susan Allison. As Susan delves deeper into the story, she becomes close with Caroline and develops feelings for Lucas, but is already engaged to a soulless international reporter. Just as things start to fall into place, Caroline suffers a mild heart crisis, throwing everything off balance.
