In the late 19th century, Edward Markham, an aristocrat, is disfigured by African sorcery and imprisoned in his family's English manor. His brother, Julian, forbids contact with the outside world, but Edward's lawyer and the sorcerer, N'Galo, concoct a plan to bring N'Galo to the manor to heal Edward. Trench and N'Galo fake Edward's death, but body snatchers sell his body to a dubious doctor. Edward escapes and, wearing a crimson hood to conceal his face, begins a killing spree in town.
