On a school trip to the South Tyrolean mountains, Mia and Benny stumble upon a series of bizarre occurrences at a mountain farm where their class is staying. A barn catches fire, the spring water turns black, and the local Luca senses a malevolent curse on his family's farm. The peppercorns, joined by new member Johannes, rush to solve the mystery, convinced that there must be a logical explanation. They soon discover that a Hamburg-based food company, Levartis, has a strong interest in the region's water. Meanwhile, Mia's sister Alice is stuck at the peppercorns' headquarters in Hamburg, feeling bored.
