In November 1864, during the American Civil War, a Union train carrying the Gatling Gun arrives in Greensburg, Ohio. Confederate spies, led by Captain James S. Simmons, ambush the train, capturing the disassembled gun. Simmons and Sergeant Guderman must cross Union states undetected to reach Confederate lines. They meet a female doctor whose ambulance wagon has broken down and decide to help her, hiding the gun in her home-clinic.
