The Silver Cord background

The Silver Cord

A family's intricate web of relationships is threatened when a mother's disapproval of her son's marriage creates tension and leads to her secret meddling in his and her other son's relationships.

Christina and David Phelps, a married couple, leave Heidelberg after two years to return to New York City, where David has a new job and Christina has a previous job offer. On their way, they visit the Phelps country home to meet David's family, including his controlling mother, who has a manipulative hold on her sons. Christina is unaware of the challenges she will face, especially compared to Hester, Rob's fiancée, who is also threatened by Mrs. Phelps' influence. Despite Christina's advantages, including her age, marriage, and pregnancy, she may struggle to overcome David's devotion to his mother.
