Laurent van Horn, a Dutch refugee, escapes prison and becomes a pirate leader after five years. He poses as a navigator on a ship carrying Contessa Francesca, who is traveling to marry Spanish ruler Don Juan Alvardo. Laurent's pirates capture the ship and Francesca, and she agrees to marry him to save another ship. However, this sparks jealousy among Laurent's crew, particularly Anne Bonney and Captain Benjamin Black, who overpower him and send Francesca to Alvarado.
