Four reels of a 1969 Russian film, "Derevensky Detektiv", starring Mikhail Zharov, were discovered in a fisherman's net on the Atlantic Ocean floor off the Icelandic coast in July 2016. The recovered footage is paired with music by David Lang and combined with interviews and film clips from Zharov's extensive filmography to create a song cycle exploring the intersection of life, history, and art on film.
