In 17th century France, a grieving viola da gamba player, Monsieur de Sainte Colombe, dedicates his life to music and his daughters after his wife's passing. Despite the fame and courtly invitations, he isolates himself in his garden home, until a young man, Marin Marais, arrives seeking lessons on the viola.
