Rancher Tex Blaine and his friends concoct a plan to scare skinflint Dan Allen, owner of the Custer Merchantile Company, by kidnapping him and chasing him out of town. The scheme goes awry when Tex mistakenly lassos Allen's visiting niece, Mary Ann Perkins, and apologizes by proposing marriage.

Tex joins forces with Skinny and Windy, two members of the Trouble Busters, as he evades the Sheriff's pursuit. The trio heads to Placerville, where Tex clashes with Bill Jarvis, leading to a frantic quest to stake a claim on a lucrative oil-rich land.
