Fancy Day, a beautiful and educated woman, arrives in town to teach school and care for her ailing father. As she settles in, the townspeople begin to speculate about who she'll marry, with wealthy Mr. Shinar emerging as a leading contender. However, Fancy also catches the eye of poor Dick Dewy and Parson Maybold. Meanwhile, Fancy becomes entangled in a feud between the parson and the former church choir, which is upset when the parson introduces a harmonium, threatening their position, and asks Fancy to play.
