In communist Bulgaria, Boryana defies tradition by not wanting children. Yet, her daughter Viktoria is born in 1979, unique in that she's missing a belly button, and becomes the country's Baby of the Decade. Until age nine, Viktoria enjoys her mother's pampering. However, when European communism crumbles, Viktoria's fame fades, and her mother's newfound struggles may finally bring them together.

The film tells the story of Viktoria, a young girl born with a rare condition, who forms a strong and unshakeable connection with Boryana, the person who takes on the responsibility of caring for her.
