War and Peace

Against the tumultuous backdrop of Napoleon's ill-fated invasion of Russia in 1812, the complex tapestry of relationships between two aristocratic families unfolds.

Napoleon's forces dominate Europe by 1812, with Russia and Austria preparing to face him. Count Nikolai Rostov and Prince Andrei Bolkonsky are among the Russian soldiers. Count Pierre Bezukhov, a friend of Andrei's, inherits a vast fortune after his father's death and is drawn to Natasha Rostov, but marries Princess Helene instead. After discovering his wife's true nature, Pierre marries Natasha, but Andrei falls in love with her and they must wait a year for their marriage due to his father's conditions. Meanwhile, Napoleon invades Russia, and Pierre visits Andrei on the eve of the battle, witnessing the carnage and vowing to kill Napoleon.
