Two groups of boys from rural French villages, Longeverne and Velran, have a long-standing feud with no clear motive. Led by William Lebrac and Aztec, they engage in childish battles with wooden swords, rotten fruits, and traps. However, Lebrac's life takes a turn as he comes of age, develops feelings for Lanterne, and is offered a chance to study elsewhere by his teacher Merlin.

In 1960s southern France, amidst the turmoil of the Algerian War, a group of spirited young boys, led by the fearless Lebrac, clash with their arch-rivals from a neighboring town in a fierce and passionate struggle.
