In the Old West of 1889, Canasta Flats is gripped with fear of Yosemite Sam, the fastest gun in the West. Sam enters a saloon, where he meets Bugs Bunny, who dares him to a duel. The two cheat and fight dirty, but Bugs gains the upper hand. Sam abandons their fight to pursue a train, but Bugs takes control and thwarts the robbery. Sam then hijacks another train, threatening to collide with Bugs', and they engage in a game of chicken. Sam prepares for a fatal collision, but Bugs extends the train's cars, allowing Sam's train to pass underneath. Sam's train crashes into a lake, and Bugs sets off for St. Louis, Missouri.
