Ebenezer Scrooge, a professional miser, detests the end of December, viewing Christmas as a humbug. He rejects his nephew's notion that Christmas is a kind time, refuses his servant Bob Cratchit's request for a day off, and dismisses collectors of donations for the poor. Suddenly, his deceased companion Jacob Marley appears, warning Scrooge that he will be haunted by three spirits: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Future.
