In the high school of Middletown, an outcast named Eli faces bullying from the arrogant Brandon and his friends. After being held in detention by the principal Addison, Eli is interviewed by psychologist Jessie, who is engaged to Deputy Travis, the son of the local priest. As Jessie and Addison delve deeper, they discover that Eli's mental state is affected by the murder of his older brother Devon, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
