In this Civil War-era comedy, a hapless bellboy named Aubrey Filmore longs to be a Union spy, but his ineptitude often gets in the way. After mistakenly capturing a notorious Confederate spy, Filmore is mistaken for the real deal by the Rebels, and the Union sees an opportunity to use him for espionage. Despite his cowardice, Filmore's true motivation is his love for a sweet Southern girl named Sallyann, whom he hopes to see again behind enemy lines.
