In the aftermath of World War I, a lone German U-boat captain, still grieving the loss of his crew, becomes obsessed with recovering the sunken gold bullion. He teams up with a waterfront bar owner and a renowned underwater explorer, but their plans are derailed when the ship the captain's benefactor bankrolls is lost at sea. Undeterred, the two men join a new expedition, this time driven by scientific curiosity, to dive to the wreckage and claim the treasure.
