Call of the Yukon background

Call of the Yukon

In the harsh Yukon wilderness, a writer and her eclectic group of animals find sanctuary with a seasoned fur trader, while desperately evading a pack of ravenous wolves that threaten to destroy their lives.

The film follows writer Jean Williams as she travels to an Eskimo settlement to find inspiration for her novel. The locals are wary of "Swift Lightning", a half dog-half wolf that leads a vicious wolf pack. Jean stays behind with trapper Gaston Rogers, while the rest of the village departs on a boat. As winter worsens, Jean and Gaston are forced to leave, but she insists on taking a detour to see the annual ice-break, which puts them in danger. The story takes a romantic turn as Jean, Gaston, and the animals - including Swift Lightning, Firefly, and Buck - develop complex relationships.
