Texas cattleman Opie Bedloe visits his son Joe, a college poetry instructor, and his pregnant wife Connie in Maine. Opie wants Joe to give up teaching and take over the family ranch, but Connie's craving for steaks on a limited budget causes Opie to intervene, arranging for a local butcher to cut prices in half.
