A mysterious imposter assumes the identity of Sir Percival Glyde, whose murder he orchestrated, to claim a substantial inheritance. He arrives at Blackwater Park, the Glyde family estate, despite its crippling debt. The imposter marries Laurie Fairlie, a young and wealthy heiress, exploiting a long-standing betrothal promise. To maintain his deceit, he is willing to eliminate anyone who uncovers his true identity, driven by a lust for wealth and power.
