Martin Niconi flees his troubled family and acquaintances to start anew as a logger in the secluded Sierra Mountains of California. There, he meets Anna Hennessey and her son Jeff, and a romance blossoms. However, Anna's brother Max, a logger who employs Martin, is intent on keeping them apart.
