In November 1793, Danton returns to Paris after learning that the Committee for Public Safety, led by Robespierre, has started a series of massive executions known as The Terror. Despite his confidence in the people's support, Danton clashes with his former ally Robespierre, who ultimately rounds up Danton and his followers, puts them on trial, and sentences them to death by guillotine.
