Devotion background

Devotion

A high-society woman from London defies convention by disguising herself as a governess, embarking on a perilous and intricate journey alongside her barrister lover's son.

Shirley Mortimer, a young-adult sister, feels overshadowed by her parents and siblings in London. She decides to leave home and work as a governess for her father's friend David Trent, who needs someone to care for his teenage son. Shirley is attracted to David, but he's looking for a middle-aged woman, so she disguises herself as Mrs. Halifax, a middle-aged governess. The situation becomes complicated when she meets Norman Harrington, who is on trial for murder and reminds David of a personal experience.
