Teresa Lorenzo, a kind-hearted restaurateur in Little Italy, takes in her delinquent son Joe and his friend Nick, giving them a second chance at life. While Nick turns his life around and is on the verge of graduating from college, Joe continues his criminal ways, pretending to work at an orange orchard while secretly in prison. Joe's release from prison coincides with Nick's graduation, and he returns to New York with his girlfriend Laurie, who is initially drawn to the Lorenzo family's sincerity. However, Joe's ulterior motives are revealed, and he seeks revenge against former associates who double-crossed him.
