A small town in Tennessee is abuzz with excitement as the residents of Shagbottom are given the chance to elect a state representative, sparking a intense battle for power and a maelstrom of drama.

When a small Tennessee community is suddenly given the right to elect a state representative, old rivalries resurface and tensions rise. At the local general store, disagreements between Simon Crumb and Uncle Foxey Calhoun escalate, while Ma Culpepper tries to dissuade Pa from running for office. Meanwhile, star-crossed lovers Nancy Calhoun and Del Culpepper are kept apart by the growing animosity until a country music festival arrives to broadcast the election.
