Janey Edwards, a record manager, is tasked with acquiring a folk song from Santa Fe College music instructor Grant Sanborn for her client Billy Weber. She poses as a co-ed to get a recording of the song from Grant, which impresses her boss Jason Ambrose in New York. However, Ambrose is only interested in Grant's voice for recording popular songs, not his folk music. Grant becomes a hit with the song "Geraldine", but Janey refuses to bring him to New York to make more records, unaware that the company has been planning to release a fake folk-music album featuring Billy Weber singing the stolen song.
