David Langham, the youngest son of a father who despises hot-rods, buys an old car but decides to keep it original out of respect for his father. After Jack Blodgett, the local speed demon, impresses David's crush Janie, David decides to modify his car to be the fastest in town. However, Jack steals the car and flees the scene of an accident, leading to David being falsely accused. The truth is eventually revealed in court, and although David's father is initially unhappy, he changes his mind after David and his friend use the car to catch some escaping robbers, ultimately leading to the construction of a hot-rod race track in the town.
