An aging man, Vengadam, is released from jail and transported back to his hometown, Kanchipuram, where he reflects on his past as a talented silk weaver. Despite his vow to marry a woman wearing a silk saree, he settles for normalcy due to constraints financial. He later promises his newborn daughter that she will wear a silk saree on her wedding day, but his dreams are crushed when he has to abandon his life savings to save his sister's life and dignity.
