In the early 1900s, Lulu Belle sings in a Natchez dive, where she meets George Davis, a rising young lawyer. He leaves his fiancée and career for her, but after his money runs out, Lulu Belle works in a New Orleans club run by Mark Brady. She tries to send George away by pretending to fall for Butch Cooper, but George's jealousy leads him to attack Butch.
