In 1970s Chile, a Catholic prep school introduces a program to admit students from poor backgrounds. Among them is Pedro, a slum-raised boy who becomes friends with Gonzalo, a liberal-bourgeois student. As they bond, Gonzalo is adopted by Pedro's slum family and gang. However, their friendship is disrupted when the government is overthrown in a military coup, led by General Pinochet, and its supporters are ousted.
