Megan Leavey, a US Marine corporal, was a Military Police K9 handler paired with Rex, a military working dog. They served two deployments in Iraq, initially in Fallujah in 2005 and then in Ramadi in 2006. During their second deployment, they were both injured by an improvised explosive device.
