A young woman's world is shaken after receiving a shocking diagnosis, prompting her to reevaluate her values and connections with others.

Joan dedicates her life to her daughter Joy, her husband Joe, a gym teacher, and her students at a school for the blind. When she suddenly develops macular degeneration, her life is turned upside down. She becomes colorblind and then completely blind, forcing her to relearn how to navigate the world. Despite the challenges, she returns to work, where her new perspective helps her connect with her students. Tragedy strikes again when Joe is diagnosed with a tumor and loses his right eye. After his passing, Joan finds love again with her high school friend Jim, a renowned butterfly expert.
