Native Land background

Native Land

A wave of attacks on the Bill of Rights swept the nation in the 1930s, as corporations, spies, and contractors collaborated to undermine workers' rights.

Paul Robeson narrates a documentary that explores the struggles of the 1930s, as union busting corporations and their allies threatened the Bill of Rights. The film combines dramatizations and archival footage to tell the stories of ordinary people who fought for their rights, including a beaten Michigan farmer, a murdered union man in Cleveland, and two sharecroppers shot in Arkansas. The documentary also features police and goons attacking union organizers and workers, as well as scenes of men at work and union families enjoying leisure time.
