Three college friends, Buddy, Bob, and Stu, are struggling to find their place in life. Buddy, who has flunked out of college, is in a relationship with his English professor and is trying to avoid the draft. Bob is in love with a waitress and wants to marry her, but she's more interested in having a good time with older, wealthier men. Stu, who has secretly married the daughter of a successful businessman, is awaiting an advance from the sale of his novel, but the sale is a lie and he's using it to impress her father. As their situations become increasingly desperate, they turn to each other and decide to rob the supermarket where Bob works, hoping that the money will solve all their problems.
