In the small town of Harmony, Tennessee, a group of actors, led by the charismatic Dapper Dan Franklin, clash with the strict authorities over creative freedom.

Dapper Dan Franklin and his actors become stranded in Harmony, Tennessee, where they are trapped by strict Blue Laws imposed by the town's domineering wives. Dan falls for Clementine, the daughter of "Pappy," and decides to stay, despite the laws. "Pappy" secretly helps Dan buy a worthless lot behind City Hall, which becomes the troupe's new headquarters.
