In 1980s Brazil, a married couple, Nadia and Joao, were expecting their son, Odair. However, Joao's violence led to Nadia losing her hearing and an affair with fellow singer Angelo, resulting in a child, Celeste. Meanwhile, Joao had an affair with Angelo's sister, Eva, and conceived a child, Ima. Eva murdered Joao while Nadia was in a coma, and spent 20 years in prison. During her sentence, Eva fell in love with fellow inmate Milene and gave birth to Ima.
