Mark Lewis, a lonely and repressed individual, is a focus puller in a British film studio and amateur filmmaker. He supplies a local adult store with cheesecake photos and is obsessed with the effects of fear on the human face and behavior. This obsession stems from his childhood, where he was subjected to experiments by his scientist father, who filmed his reactions to fear. As a grown man, Mark becomes a compulsive murderer, killing women and documenting their terror and death on film. He records the contorted faces and dying gasps of his victims, and surrounds himself with the sounds and sights of terror in his room.
