The film tells the story of Bethany Lockwood, a newcomer to Pogey Beach, as she becomes entangled in a world of drinking, recreational activities, and informal work. She attracts the attention of two men, Gary Gallant, the King of Pogey Beach, and Lyle MacDonald, a spiritual vagrant. However, their lives are put at risk when Bethany's disapproving father intervenes, threatening the community's way of life.
