Princess Maria, feeling unfulfilled in New York, is sent to San Francisco by her uncle to shake off her boredom. However, her fear of flying prompts her to take a sleeping pill, which is secretly reinforced by the pilot, navigator, and stewardess. When the plane is forced to return to New York due to bad weather, the princess is left in the care of pilot Edward O'Rourke, who takes her to his apartment for the night. The next day, she discovers a note asking her to meet him after work and decides to investigate. She introduces herself as a poor European maid, unaware that O'Rourke will propose to her by the end of the day.
