A homesick American soldier on leave in England during WWII sneaks back to the US to visit his wife, returning to England before his absence is noticed. Only his wife knows of his brief visit, and she keeps it a secret to avoid getting him in trouble. When she becomes pregnant, the townspeople condemn her for not revealing her husband's unauthorized visit, but after his discharge, the soldier enlists the help of a nightclub singer, the only other person who knew of his trip, and the gossip dies down.
