A malevolent spirit infects the souls of living hosts, claiming new victims like an occult virus. The spirit, known as the Visitant, "leaped" into Maya after killing her best friend a year ago. Maya has been enduring its abuse and avoiding human contact, but when she accidentally touches her neighbor Leslie, the terror begins again. The spirit infects Leslie and then her older daughter Amanda, who is discovered speaking to the ghost in her sleep. The horror escalates when Leslie's younger daughter Sarah gets "infected" and is completely subjugated by the entity. Leslie, Amanda, and their allies must band together to save Sarah and themselves before it's too late, and uncover the dark origin of the entity.
