Nick and Kitty, a middle-aged working-class couple, are on the brink of divorce after Kitty discovers a romantic poem Nick wrote to his mistress, Tula. As Kitty seeks support from her family, friends, and church community, Nick turns to his coworker and a local police officer for advice. With their relationships hanging in the balance, the couple must confront their feelings and consider their future together.
