Savages background

Savages

The movie explores the evolution of human society from primitive to refined, but beneath the surface, it reveals a timeless conflict between our civilized veneer and our primal instincts.

A group of primitive mudpeople stumble upon a croquet ball and follow it to a deserted Long Island estate, where they become civilized and adopt the mannerisms and attire of wealthy partygoers. The film is an allegory for the excesses of the upper class, ultimately ending with the mudpeople reverting back to their primitive state and vanishing into the woods after a chaotic croquet match.
