A middle-aged journalist named Leigh Lindsay, happily married with a teenage daughter, is assigned to finish the work of her deceased colleague Joe Walthrop. Leigh dreams of the accident and reports it to her doctor, who gives her stronger sleeping pills. She travels to New Mexico to interview a healer named Cerio, but her best friend, an artist named Rayna, warns her that Cerio is a brujo, or warlock. Despite the warning, Leigh presses on, only to faint during the interview and have Cerio take a protective ring from her finger. Leigh soon finds herself being stalked by Cerio, who believes she is the reincarnation of his 17th-century lover, affecting her family and friends.
